What Makes a Marriage Stop Working? What You Can Do About It

Many modern marriages fail due to three main causes: money, sex, and children. Or so it seems. Research has suggested that these things are not the cause of the failure, but rather the circumstances through which underlying resentments my surface.

Resentment is often the result of failed expectations. But can you really blame your partner if you’ve never voiced those expectations? Expecting your relationship to emulate another’s will end up suffocating your relationship through lack of communication.

The best way to open up the line of communication in an already failing marriage is through positivity. Your marriage likely began to fail when you started dwelling on one another’s short-comings. Making an effort to outwardly and genuinely compliment your spouse will create a positive flow of energy. You will, in turn, began to feel better about your self and open the line for your spouse to reciprocate this positivity.
